Power cuts return to Maltese nights

It appears to be a long hot night for residents of several towns in the centre and South of Malta as power cuts make an unwelcome return. Reports have reached us of power cuts in Santa Venera, Birkirkara and Qormi due to a contractor hitting a cable there.

Earlier this evening, power cuts were reported in Cottonera (Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua), Zabbar, Zejtun, Tarxien, Paola and Fgura.

Only a few hours ago, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli was bragging about a recent agreement to purchase LNG for power stations at market prices by Enemalta.

It’s a disgrace parliament and MPs lying yet again, they say they have done this and done that to stop this happening, but they allow contractors to switch power off as they want, they should give them very heavy fines each time
