The new Labour government has carried out its first bilateral visit, choosing the United Kingdom for the occasion. The Foreign Affairs Minister met with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, and is expected to announce other meetings with British government officials.
The pair discussed closer collaboration between their respective parliaments. Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister was accompanied by Malta’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Stephen Montefort.
Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister has also been appointed Chairman of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group. The group is currently discussing a democracy and rule-flaw crisis in Tanzania which is high on the agenda.
While in London, the Foreign Affairs Minister also met with the Maltese community in London.
Malta’s incumbent Foreign Minister previously lived in the United Kingdom, where he worked as a surgeon with the NHS.
