Corrupt widow of Palestinian leader who syphoned money to Malta was at the Bogan High Society Party

Unsurprisingly—and entirely in keeping with the sleaze-fest organised by disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his wife, Michelle—Suha Arafat was also present at the party.

Suha Arafat embezzled tens of millions of US dollars which were transferred to Malta and subsequently invested in several properties through her Maltese company.

The sums involved may have been considerably higher. Yasser Arafat held accounts in Swiss and French banks containing hundreds of millions of dollars which were diverted from funds intended for the Palestinian people. An IMF audit estimated Arafat’s embezzlement to reach up to $900 million while independent investigations subsequently confirmed that he had embezzled at least up to $300 million.

Yet he is still celebrated by people who conveniently gloss over his record of turning the Palestinian cause into a permanent and meaningless struggle—one that brought endless conflict and destruction to his own people instead of delivering a functioning Palestinian state.

Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin, the assassinated Israeli prime- minister, came so close in the early 1990s to permanent peace in the middle east through the Oslo accords. President Bill Clinton facilitated the process and the PLO became the officially recognised Palestinian political Authority and administration. The 2 State solution became the normal political narrative of the day while the whole world was so hopeful and feeling upbeat. Arafat and Rabin were jointly awarded the Noble prize for peace in 1994. These developments were amazingly remarkable achievements as it took skill, strength and loads of courage from both sides. So much so that the zionist evil forces would not accepted this paradigm shift towards peace and Rabin paid with his life at the hand of an Israeli man. Arafat died in mysterious circumstances as well. The region has since regressed to its worst state since the great catastrophe of 1948. These two statesmen were mere mortal like all others but their vision and true love for peace is etched in history for ever. No other leader of their calibre has emerged in the region ever since while hope is nowhere to be seen or heard at the moment. There is very good reason why these two statesmen should be celebrated.
