Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami on a sealed warrant connected to a British request for their extradition.
They were detained on Saturday before Andrew Tate was due to co-host a bare-knuckle boxing event at the James L. Knight Center. The pair are expected to appear before a federal court in Miami as the extradition process begins.
The Crown Prosecution Service is seeking their return to the United Kingdom over a combined 59 criminal charges—42 against Andrew Tate and 17 against Tristan Tate. The total comprises 21 charges previously authorised by British prosecutors and 38 newly announced charges relating to four further complainants.
The new charges against Andrew Tate include seven counts of rape, allegations of arranging or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault offences and 19 offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. He had already been facing charges of rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.
Tristan Tate faces charges including rape, sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and arranging or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The alleged offences involving both brothers are said to have taken place between 2010 and 2017. The British proceedings now concern allegations made by seven complainants.
The British case is separate from unresolved criminal investigations in Romania. The brothers were first arrested there in December 2022 over allegations including human trafficking and participation in an organised criminal group, while Andrew Tate was also accused of rape. The first Romanian prosecution was delayed by procedural and evidential rulings, while a separate investigation includes allegations of human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual offences involving a minor and money laundering. Neither Romanian investigation has reached trial, and the brothers deny wrongdoing.
A Romanian court had previously approved their eventual extradition to Britain after the conclusion of the Romanian proceedings. Their presence and arrest in the United States, however, mean that the immediate British request will now be considered through the American federal extradition system.
