Donors have joined forces to raise money for a generator for a cat shelter after it spent more than 20 hours without electricity. The shelter, run by CSAF—Carers for Stray and Abandoned Felines—is located in Cospicua, a locality that was also significantly affected by the recent wave of widespread blackouts across the islands.
The shelter houses vulnerable cats that may be seriously affected by rising temperatures, with some also requiring medical equipment to survive. The prolonged power cut put many of the shelter’s most vulnerable cats at risk.
The case is a stark reminder that blackouts affect the most vulnerable members of society, including older and sick people, as well as animals that are equally susceptible to extreme temperature changes.
At the time of writing, donors had successfully raised up to €4,000.
