Citizens end up taking care of animals as Animal Rights Ministry remains inconspicuous

Citizens have been taking it upon themselves to care for abandoned animals, as the Animal Ministry seems completely absent at a time of national crisis, with most of the electricity grid having been down for more than a week.

Comedian James Ryder managed to raise funds for a generator for the CSAF animal sanctuary in Cospicua, saving the lives of vulnerable cats who were at risk of dying from heatstroke or after having their medical facilities switched off. For his efforts, James Ryder received a shout-out from famous comedian Omid Djalili, who was in Malta for the second time to give a show.

Meanwhile, residents are joining forces to save ducks, which are often abandoned in water features for decoration by the authorities or private owners, only to never be cared for again. Ducks in Marsalforn were saved, with citizens providing them with water facilities. Other actions involved citizens raising awareness about leaving water-drinking sources for outdoor cats.

A petition has also been started to ban commercial horse-rides in Summer. You can find the petition here.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Animal Rights has been touring the local feasts.
