Trump’s Russian-born friend and functionary joins meeting between Rubio and Lavrov

US President Donald Trump’s friend and special envoy, Sergio Gor, was present at the meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN-related foreign ministers’ meetings in Manila, the Philippines.

Sergio Gor, a Maltese and US citizen, was born in Russia. Gor previously served in President Trump’s administration as Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, but he is now the US Ambassador to India and President Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.

The US Secretary of State had very little to say about the meeting, which was inconsequential. Previously, Secretary Rubio said that the US had few opportunities to cooperate with Russia because of its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The US Secretary of State held a series of meetings with his counterparts, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, as well as Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
