Romania intercepts Russian Shahed drone in its territory

A Romanian F-16 pilot shot down a Russian Shahed/Geran-2-type drone in Buzău County, around 114 km from Bucharest.

The drone entered Romanian territory via the Black Sea and travelled at approximately 200 km/h.It was intercepted by Italian Eurofighter jets and Romanian F-16 fighter jets, which successfully shot it down.

The drone was a Shahed/Geran-2 type—an Iranian-designed model widely used by Russian forces.

This was the first successful shoot-down of a drone in Romanian airspace.

This is not the first time that Russia has struck Romania with drones, while Poland has also experienced similar Russian drone attacks in actions that are taken to test NATO’s resolve.
