Prime Minister says increased electric load heated up cables

Earlier today, speaking to a ONE propagandist about the ongoing power-cuts, Prime Minister Robert Abela admitted for the first time that an “increased electrical load” in the cables contributed to them heating up. He added that record summer temperatures exacerbated their condition, causing them to heat up even faster.

Previously, the Prime Minister said that only parts of Malta where the grid had not been upgraded were affected. Now, the version has been modified for the first time. He also reiterated that, where the electricity grid had already been upgraded, the results were “satisfactory”, without providing any details.

Most of Malta and Gozo were hit by power cuts, which implies that, if the Prime Minister’s statement is true, the upgrade of the electricity grid still needs to gain traction, if it has begun at all. The upgrade was initially announced in February 2022.

He added that Malta’s electricity consumption will increase as the economy moves towards a more digital and highly productive model
