Nearly a third of all Maltese, and up to 27.6% of Maltese can not afford a one-week holiday according to the latest Eurostat figures. The figures are based on 2025 data and Malta is slightly higher above than the EU’s average at 27.5%.
The lowest figure of people unable to afford a one-week holiday was recorded in Luxembourg at 10.6% followed by 12.4% in Sweden and 12.8% in the Netherlands.
The highest figures were recorded in Romania at 61.4%, followed by Greece (46.6%) and Bulgaria and Hungary (both 39.1%).
In a recent interview with Times of Malta, the Prime Minister said that the Maltese were doing well because they are taking second-holidays and buying boats. The figure did go down however from the 33.1% in 2021.
