Earlier today, during the ongoing trial of Yorgen Fenech, Catherine Halpin was mentioned.
Catherine Halpin is an engineer who worked as Electrogas’ commercial director. According to testimony given in court today by Matthew Caruana Galizia, she helped Yorgen Fenech secure funding for the project when it was facing significant liquidity problems.
The fact that Electrogas had serious liquidity problems was already well known, but this is becoming increasingly clear through the testimony as further details about the company emerge in court.
For the purposes of documentation and the historical record, it would be vital to understand how Electrogas managed to overcome its liquidity problems, particularly since the company also obtained a credit facility from Bank of Valletta.
The testimony and evidence are also making it increasingly clear why Yorgen Fenech not only cultivated close relations with Joseph Muscatโs inner circle to push his projects through, but also needed continued government support for his major project, Electrogas. This explains why he needed key figures involved in both the project and the government to remain on his side.
Apart from bribing senior government officials through secret companies such as 17 Black, Yorgen Fenech also sought favour by sleeping with as many key and relevant women as possible and winning them over with gifts. Yorgen Fenech had an intimate relationship with Keith Schembri’s secretary, Charlene Bianco Farrugia and also the Labour MP Rosianne Cutajar.
However, Yorgen Fenech even had an intimae and secret relationship with Catherine Halpin and he also shared many secrets with her, including the fact that he made use of the dark web to procure illicit drugs, and that he took drugs with the other Electrogas shareholder, Mark Gasan.
