European Union’s GDP grows by 1.5% in 2025: Malta at 4%

The European Union’s GDP grew by 1.5% from 2024 to 2025, accelerating slightly from the 1.1% growth registered in 2024, according to the latest Eurostat figures.

Malta significantly outpaced the European average, with its economy expanding by 4.0% in real terms during 2025. This made Malta the second-fastest-growing economy in the European Union, behind Ireland, which registered exceptional growth of 12.3%. Cyprus followed Malta with growth of 3.8%. In nominal terms, Malta’s GDP reached approximately €24.58 billion in 2025, compared with around €23.14 billion in 2024.

Malta’s nominal GDP per capita stood at approximately €42,159 in 2025, slightly above the EU average of €41,650. Malta’s economy is growing mainly due to tourism and local consumption.

At the other end of the table, Germany and Finland registered the weakest growth in the EU, with their economies expanding by just 0.2%, while Hungary grew by 0.4%. Eurostat reported that GDP increased in all EU Member States during 2025.

  1. This is in itself should be a red light : do we really think Europeans are more stupid than us? Or is it because we have no standards and accept anything as long as it bring in money
