Sliema NexaWin booked their place in the BOV Summer League Premier Division final after defeating Sirens Build Fitness 15-12 in an entertaining semi-final on Friday evening.
The two sides produced a closely fought contest, with Sliema holding a narrow 4-3 lead after the opening quarter. Sirens responded strongly in the second period and levelled the match at 6-6 before Sliema restored their advantage.
Sliema then took control in the third quarter, extending their lead to 12-9 heading into the final period. Sirens attempted to mount a comeback, but the Sliema side held their composure to secure a 15-12 victory and a place in the final.
Jayden Cutajar was the main contributor for Sliema with five goals, while Francesco Di Fulvio scored four. Liam Galea added two, with Elijah Schembri, Dino Zammit and Sam Engerer scoring once each.
Sirens were led by an outstanding Daniel Angyal, who scored seven goals. Isiah Riolo added three, while Zach Mizzi and Matthew Mifsud scored once apiece.
The semi-final was an intense affair, with both teams committing to a physical contest. Sliema were reduced to six players temporarily following Cutajar’s red card in the third quarter, but they maintained their advantage and eventually secured the win.
Sliema NexaWin will now contest the BOV Summer League Premier Division final, while Sirens Build Fitness bow out at the semi-final stage.
