The Zawiyah Energy Complex in the city of Zawiyah, western Libya, has been struck, potentially by drones or rocket fire, with its oil tanks taking direct hits and causing a massive blaze. Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Dbeibah announced a security meeting with his cabinet following the attacks and stated that the government will take measures to prevent further disruption.
Zawiyah is home to a multitude of armed and criminal gangs that have profited from the illegal sale of Libyan oil, and armed groups have been fighting for control and influence over the city and its energy infrastructure. Clashes have also been ongoing between different armed groups in the city earlier this month.
Separately, in an unrelated incident, the military intelligence chief of Khalifa Haftar, Fawzi al-Mansouri, was killed by a car bomb.
