As discussed earlier today, Yorgen Fenech’s defence is trying to disrupt the trial by raising points of order which Judge Edwina Grima has consistently welcomed and ruled in favour of without exercising any excessive oversight. They are now demanding that the trial be dissolved because jury members could have accessed news headlines on their tablets (but not the content of the articles).
In addition, Yorgen Fenech won’t be taking the witness stand even if the trial continues, obviously with the defence being aware that he could incriminate himself even further.
The defence seems to have been exposed as having a very weak and feeble case, with Yorgen Fenech’s self-incriminating interrogations by the police, and this is probably the only way they could save him – by exploiting legal points of order and threatening, and maybe even blackmailing or corrupting, the judge (Yorgen Fenech is accused of bribing witnesses and journalists).
So now we are waiting for the Judge’s decision, which hopefully should not entertain the ridiculous and desperate request of the defence.
