At least seven people have died and 23 remain missing after a passenger ferry carrying 267 people capsized off the northern coast of Cyprus on Sunday.
The vessel had departed from Kyrenia shortly after midday, bound for the Turkish port of Taลucu. It was around 2km north of Kyrenia when it capsized, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
Turkish Cypriot coastguard boats were among the first to respond, while a rescue helicopter and additional boats from Kyrenia were deployed to assist those in the water.
Kyrenia Mayor Murat ลenkul described the situation as serious, with authorities working to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The latest figures indicate that 237 people have been rescued, while 23 remain missing. Seven deaths have been confirmed.
Those rescued were taken back to Kyrenia, with injured passengers receiving medical attention.
Search and rescue operations remain under way as authorities continue efforts to locate the missing passengers and determine what caused the ferry to capsize.
