Another diplomatic political appointment: Emmanuel Mallia moved to the UAE

Former Home Affairs Minister and Ambassador to Spain Emmanuel Mallia has been appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. He previously also served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

A criminal lawyer by profession, Mallia was involved in multiple scandals during his political career and was subsequently forced to resign by Joseph Muscat following a shooting incident involving his driver. Yet Emmanuel Mallia always seems to land high-profile diplomatic postings.

Unlike Joseph Cuschieri, who has been stuck as a permanent fixture in Greece for a number of years.

  1. Clearly, any ambassadorial appointment requires the prospective appointee to have a connection to the Labour Party.
