If we ever want to improve and better our country, we first have to admit our realities and the facts at hand. No fact and no other reality is more glaringly overwhelming at this particular time in our history than that, under the Labour government, Malta is becoming a fundamentally very evil place.
We would be extremely foolish to bury our heads in the sand and refuse to see what’s happening around us. The fact that a jury in Malta was able to deliver a verdict acquitting Yorgen Fenech, despite all the evidence against him and even his own admissions of guilt, may be due to many reasons, such as bribery, evil, or outright ignorance and stupidity. But what makes all this possible is a society and a backdrop that have become incredibly evil. Labour has created an authoritarian and evil society with very little morality and no soul.
Labour has corrupted and broken the state and its institutions but to do so, it also needed a society that accommodated, supported and voted in favour of this dismemberment of the state. Labour did this by exerting control over society to a very significant extent.
Labour has no vision or end to Maltese society and it is ruling out of self-serving interest. When Labour was in Opposition under Joseph Muscat, the dream and the vision was to modernise society and end the precarious labour market by uplifting it with value. Nowadays, we have an economy completely twisted as we struggle to sustain high GDP growth-rates with a tourism industry and a consumption economy subsidised by pubic funds.
Labour’s mission has been reduced to simply keeping its political machine remains running under this unsustainable economic formula. There seem to be no guiding values or aims behind Labour’s mission and this is why its political vision, as inscribed in writing, has been reduced to the banality of a list of thousands of bullet-point proposals that supposedly proves, in its numbers, Labour’s good-will.
Joseph Muscat turned the Labour Party in a criminal organisation and it works such tenets – solely and exclusively to preserve itself. This is how Labour’s politics and its governance should be understood.
Labour is creating a society of its own, for its own, with everybody else who is not part of the Labour tribe having to live with a second-tier set of rights and privileges. Within the Labour society itself, there is a whole hierarchy. If you join the Labour Party and support it actively, you have a better chance of getting a government job and getting further ahead with your business — this is how a dictatorial society like China works.
The hierarchy of Chinese society is mainly structured by the party and class comes second. Party-cadres can become upper-class as they climb the ranks of the party and enrich themselves through corruption. Independent businessmen can have everything taken away from them just as they did with Jack Ma. Power in China stems from the Communist Party and anyone who wants to get ahead in Chinese society has to be a party-member.
Labour is building something similar in Malta – where your business growth and expansion can only come via a government-designed route. We have many examples of businessmen who grew out of government largesse and support including Joseph Portelli, the Bonnici Brothers and of course, Tumas Group with Electrogas and Yorgen Fenech himself. These are the business products under Labour. Businesses have to pay the party with donations.
While it takes over the world of business, Labour is monopolising the information space. First, it has captured the University and then it capture the press. In its fight for political supremacy, Labour is squeezing and pressuring any form of independent thought and thinking and ensuring that only its members and supporters can thrive in our society.
The Labour Party is waging a war against free thinking and the free press by trying to squeeze us out of existence systematically. The Labour governemnt is doing this via legal warfare, preventing us from getting equivalent subsidies that it distributes to its friendly press, and squeezing us out of banking credit and credit lines via AML regulations, especially via Bank of Valletta which it directly controls. It has a whole publicly-funded propaganda machine which it uses to prime up hate and bile against free thinkers, dissidents and journalists.
Meanwhile, the government is giving amnesties to its criminal friends who instead of being investigated for their illegal gotten proceeds – are being allowed to walk free through a deal with the taxman. The message is that the point of crime is not to get caught and if you don’t get caught, you are rewarded by the government.
Crime literally pays.
The increasing cruelty and abrasiveness by which this country is being run is reflected in animal welfare and legislation. The Labour Party was actually progressive and very socialist in relation to animal welfare and more than ten years ago Labour banned animal circuses. It eventually reverted contrary to this position and has since then allowed the freedom to trade and keep any animal while legalising zoos and the cruel keeping of wild animals in miserable conditions.
Life and behaviour on a granular and every-day level becomes more frantic more tense. It’s harder to make genuine connections and everything comes with a price. The youth are squeezed out o the housing market and are compelled to become more dependent on the party-in-government for their success.
Truth is no longer valuable in this society as the party’s currency pays more. And with truth losing its value, journalists become enemies of the party and the new criminal state, which provides impunity to their murderers.
Ultimately, Labour needs to turn to tradition and entertainment to sustain this mediocre cruelty as reason and science are anathema to it. The zeitgeist work of art becomes a stuffed bird funded by the Arts Council.
