Victoria Wanderers edge Sannat in five-goal thriller as Qala Saints strike late

SK Victoria Wanderers registered a dramatic 3-2 victory over Sannat Lions, while Qala Saints scored a stoppage-time winner against Kerċem Ajax in the third matchday of the BOV Gozo Football League First Division.

The two victories have brought Victoria Wanderers level on six points with leaders Għajnsielem, although the latter have played one match fewer.

Amodu double secures victory for Victoria Wanderers

Victoria Wanderers survived a spirited Sannat Lions comeback to secure an entertaining 3-2 victory at the Gozo Stadium on Friday evening.

The Wanderers made a promising start and took the lead after 19 minutes through Mustapha Lawal Amodu.

Bruno Miguel De Sousa Rosa doubled their advantage in the 38th minute, putting Victoria firmly in control.

However, Sannat responded almost immediately, with Yeangel Emilio Montero Manzano reducing the deficit just three minutes later to give his side renewed hope before the interval.

Sannat continued their recovery after the break and restored parity in the 62nd minute when Montero Manzano struck again to complete his brace.

Their celebrations proved short-lived, however, as Victoria Wanderers regained the lead just five minutes later.

Amodu scored his second goal of the encounter in the 67th minute, restoring the visitors’ advantage and ultimately securing all three points.

The result lifted Victoria Wanderers to six points from three matches, while Sannat remain without a point after three consecutive defeats.

The encounter was refereed by Anthony Paul Vella.

Tavares strikes late to give Qala Saints victory

Meanwhile, Qala Saints secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Kerċem Ajax in Saturday’s encounter at the Gozo Stadium.

With the two teams seemingly heading towards a goalless draw, Marcos Magno Moraes Tavares emerged as Qala’s match-winner.

Tavares struck in the first minute of stoppage time to secure a valuable victory for the Saints.

The result allowed Qala to join Kerċem on three points, with both teams having played two matches.

Emanuel Grech refereed the encounter.

Following these results, Għajnsielem and Victoria Wanderers share the lead on six points, although Għajnsielem have a game in hand.

Xagħra United, Xewkija Tigers, Kerċem Ajax and Qala Saints follow on three points each, while Sannat Lions remain bottom of the standings.
