Just to be clear, I don’t know if the two individuals in this image are related to each other — they are both Caruana, but Caruana is also one of the most popular surnames in Malta, along with Borg and Camilleri.
This image is, however, interesting because it perfectly represents Labour’s Zeitgeist during the current days.
A talk-show host of a crass party propagandist who ingratiates with criminal politicians, paid and promoted by the public broadcaster, along with an autistic nerd who is being used by the leaders of a criminal and illiberal political party to articulate and legitimise a populist fiscal policy usually adopted by countries like Egypt or Pakistan.
And before forgetting, the sponsor is by one of Joseph Muscat’s pip-squeaks, and just another crass businessman who jumped on Labour’s band wagon out of personal interest.
In 2013, those of us who militated within Labour dreamed of modernity. We got crass barbarity and illiberal third-world politics instead.
