Mono-rail project estimated to cost 30% of GDP: Minister Clyde Caruana

Yesterday in Parliament, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana reiterated his position on the proposed monorail project by the Labour government, saying that he would only approve the project if extensive studies were presented.

So far, the Minister said, no such studies have been presented.

The Minister also said that the project is estimated to cost up to 30% of GDP, which is a very significant figure that needs to be scrutinised.

The Transport Minister is pushing forward a third-world-like monorail after Labour appears to have given up on the idea of building a metro.

Malta has a major traffic problem, with the number of cars on the road increasing on a daily basis.

The Finance Minister also defended the Transport Minister, saying that he was not trying to deceive the people, but that matters would be handled meticulously and not in a rushed manner.
