Fact Check: French blonde woman used as a meme is NOT a shop-owner

Anti-immigrant pundits are taking to social media with memes about the French woman who was filmed asking protesters to stop looting a shop in Paris last Saturday, October 17. The woman has become a meme and is being portrayed as a liberal white woman and shop owner who defended the protesters’ cause and the right of immigrants to live in France, only to experience the negative consequences of her beliefs.

However, this meme and the story surrounding the woman are entirely made up.

The woman is not the shop owner but actually a regular customer of the shop. We also do not know what her political beliefs are.

The shop is the Franprix supermarket on Rue du Faubourg-du-Temple, near Place de la République in Paris.

The footage was taken by photojournalist Frédéric Munsch.

Mark, what about the 3 muslim brothers guarding a muslim woman’s shop telling fellow protesters that she is a sister to the cause,I’m other words a fellow muslim?

We can infer her political beliefs from what she says in the video, which is an idiom meaning, “This isn’t what we are fighting for!”
