The Malta Football Association confirmed that the decision, taken by the Control, Disciplinary and Ethics Committee on 2 October, has become final and binding after Mtarfa failed to lodge an appeal before the 19 October deadline.
The disciplinary action followed the club’s failure to honour scheduled matches against Mellieħa SC on 19 September and Senglea Athletic FC on 27 September.
Both incidents were referred to the Committee, which subsequently ruled that Mtarfa should be suspended from the competition.
Under Article 41(i) of the MFA Competition Rules, as Mtarfa failed to play at least half of their scheduled league fixtures, the matches against Mellieħa and Senglea have been declared null and void.
Consequently, the points previously awarded to both clubs from those matches have been deducted, while all remaining fixtures involving Mtarfa have been cancelled.
The six cancelled fixtures are against Dingli Swallows on 14 November, San Ġwann on 22 November, Lija Athletic on 29 November, Qormi on 5 December, Qrendi on 13 December and Marsa on 19 December.
Mtarfa have now been officially classified in 12th and last place in the BOV National League 1 standings and will be relegated to the BOV National League 2 at the conclusion of the current campaign.
The club finishing 11th will also be relegated.
In a further setback, Mtarfa will begin the 2027/28 BOV National League 2 season with a 10-point deduction, following a decision by the Member Clubs Licensing Board which was subsequently reviewed by the Appeals Board.
The ruling brings Mtarfa’s participation in this season’s National League 1 campaign to a premature end, with the club facing the additional challenge of starting next season on minus 10 points.
