Mtarfa suspended from National League 1 after two missed fixtures

Mtarfa FC have been suspended from the BOV National League 1 after failing to turn up for two league matches during the 2026/27 season.

The Malta Football Association’s Control, Discipline and Ethics Board imposed the sanction after considering breaches of the competition regulations arising from the club’s absence from both fixtures.

The first match, against Mellieħa, was scheduled for 19 September 2026 but did not take place because Mtarfa failed to attend. Their subsequent fixture against Senglea Athletic, scheduled for 27 September, was also not played for the same reason.

As both incidents occurred in the same competition, the Board applied Article 15(ii)(a) of the Competition Rules, which provides that a team failing to play two matches in the same league-based competition may be removed from that competition.

The Board ordered Mtarfa’s suspension from the BOV National League 1 and ruled that the club must also forfeit its entitlement to the sponsorship money associated with the competition.
