Strong fleet expected for BOV Gozo Weekend as Calypso 3.0 targets third successive title

The BOV Gozo Weekend returns this November with a strong fleet of 25 yachts already registered across three classes for one of the Royal Malta Yacht Club’s most popular autumn events.

Supported once again by Bank of Valletta, the annual regatta combines competitive sailing with a social programme, attracting both experienced racers and cruising enthusiasts.

Entries have been received in the IRC Racer, IRC Cruiser and RMYC Club Class categories, with several crews returning to competitive action following their participation in the Rolex Middle Sea Race.

Particular attention will focus on Calypso 3.0, skippered by Seb Ripard, which will be aiming to secure a third consecutive overall victory. Last year’s winner faces strong competition from an impressive line-up of entries in the IRC Racer Class.

Meanwhile, the RMYC Club Class will feature a mixture of established competitors and newcomers, including Royal Malta Yacht Club committee member Aaron Gatt Floridia.

Having won the class last year while racing aboard Nenya, Gatt Floridia returns with his own yacht, Otra Vez, hoping to repeat that success.

Beyond the racing, the BOV Gozo Weekend remains renowned for its social atmosphere, bringing together sailors, families and friends.

Following Saturday’s racing, participants will gather on the pontoons for a traditional happy hour featuring pastizzi and beer.

The programme will also include the customary fenkata, which will be open to participants and other visitors spending the weekend in Gozo.

The event concludes on Sunday with the passage race back to Malta, followed by the official prize-giving ceremony at the Royal Malta Yacht Club.

With a competitive fleet already confirmed and further interest expected, this year’s BOV Gozo Weekend promises another enjoyable combination of racing and camaraderie on the Maltese islands’ sailing calendar.
