What’s the use of Parliament if its votes are not respected?

There’s a very simple question that legal and constitutional experts should have written about for the Sunday papers.

What is the role and significance of our Parliament if its votes are not respected? There is another aspect to the constitutional crisis that the Prime Minister has created, apart from his attack on the judiciary. If Parliament voted against a public inquiry, isn’t it unconstitutional that the Prime Minister would disrespect this vote and start a public inquiry anyway?

Robert Abela has successfully made a total mockery of Parliament and these constitutional shenanigans in Maltese history are unprecedented.

I feel like this is such an important point, which is now being overlooked.

I was wondering what precedent this would cause, and found it so strange that a decision like this could be taken.

Are there any more arguments/reasoning/debates around this?
