Perit Adriana Zammit is the architect responsible for the collapsed building that killed Jean-Paul Sofia, and she is currently under arrest along with the developers and the contractors. Żammit has long been at the service of corrupt government officials, so her choice as an architect by Kurt Buhagiar’s and Matthew Schembri’s fraudulent company would have been ideal. Żammit also knew very well that providing a service to Kurt Buhagiar and Matthew Schembri for their project was irregular. Indeed, Adriana pulled most of her money out of her bank accounts and transferred all her funds to a close relative of hers on the day that a magisterial inquiry was announced on Jean-Paul Sofia’s death.
Adriana Żammit was trusted and worked for MEPA’s Executive Chairman Johann Buttiġieġ as a case officer with another architect and then ERA CEO, Michelle Piccinino who were entrusted to manage and process applications for large developments. Johann himself was involved in owning such large developments in his wife’s name that were processed by Żammit herself when working at MEPA. Eventually, Żammit was promoted by Johann Buttiġieġ to senior management and then transferred to ERA with Michelle Piccinino where she supposedly managed architectural work for Hexagon House. After their stint at ERA, Adriana Żammit was transferred to Transport Malta, and Michelle Piccinino was appointed by Silvio Schembri as CEO of the Lands Registry.
?ammit is a typical corrupt opportunist who will more than gladly be at the service of corrupt individuals and she is also very much aware of the blatant conflicts of interest of Johann Buttiġieġ with regard to the processing of several projects owned by his wife.
