Imagine if Joseph Muscat was arraigned in court before a Magistrate who is in direct contact with the Prime Minister over WhatsApp, misplaces important pieces of evidence, attends exclusive VIP Labour Party festivities, dines with Malta’s most dangerous criminals and corrupt politicians, and even makes out-of-court deals with the defendants of her court. Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech has earned a reputation for irregular and potentially corrupt behaviour and is now facing a rebellion by lawyers who have had enough of her antics.
Somehow, given the weak character of the Chief Justice, Donatella Frendo Dimech is still able to abuse her position and act as if she owns the justice system. She even feels as powerful as to exculpate herself with the blind support of her servants. Keith Cutajar, the court expert who corresponds with the Magistrate on WhatsApp, had to gall to say under oath that “All is in order in the Magistrate’s chambers.” This is a photo of the chambers of Magistrate Donatella Frendo where you can see the evidence of the cases being brought in front of her court piled at random and with little if any order at all.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech hears mostly cases of money laundering and some of these boxes include evidence of some of Malta’s most high-profile money laundering cases.
The last time we had members of the judiciary who made a mockery of justice, we had two judges who were taking bribes from drug dealers. Donatella Frendo Dimech has managed to exceed the previous record of the judiciary’s mockery of justice by basically being an all-rounded judicial rule-breaker, in and outside the courts, on a regular basis.
