The incompetence, idiocy, and corruption of Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo is well-known. The Ministry of Tourism has been turned into a money pot for criminals associated with the Labour Party, with rampant corruption being conducted on a very extended basis. The lavish and highly irregular spending by the Ministry for Tourism has led the Minister for Finances to reduce its budget and even move its Film Fund to the Culture Ministry. Currently, Clayton Bartolo is also fighting to keep secret a report on his Ministry’s rampant and irregular funding of the Film Commission.
Now, Clayton Bartolo is in hot water over his incredibly irregular and quasi-corrupt move to influence a witness of the Public Accounts Committee before the witness testified to the committee. This witness was none other than Bank of Valletta’s chairman, Gordon Cordina. Gordon knows that the Minister’s act to influence him was highly irregular, and you can see him at the committee whimpering and replying skulkingly to the PAC’s chairman, knowing fully and very well that what the Minister did was highly irregular. However, even though Gordon Cordina knows very well that it is highly irregular to be speaking to a government member of the PAC on his own testimony, Gordon Cordina went along with the Minister as the obedient servant he is.
Gordon Cordina is the government-appointed chairman of Malta’s biggest bank, Bank of Valletta. As Chairman of BOV, Gordon even conducted consultancy services to the government through his company E-Cubed. He has little and no actual banking experience, having spent most of his career writing papers and teaching at the University but the Labour Party trusts him to the extent of trying to influence him by irregular and illegal means.
Institutions and the rule of law have no meaning or significance for the Labour government as it usurps everything it touches. However, Labour’s usurpation of our institutions is facilitated by people like Gordon Cordina who can’t say no to government appointments without subduing themselves completely to the interests of the people appointing them.
