Lately, Robert Abela has been boasting on Twitter about his official trips to Austria and Germany where he supposedly discussed illegal immigration in the Mediterranean Sea (as recent history would attest, these discussions usually involve the Maltese Premier begging foreign leaders to take our illegal immigrants).
The Austrian press didn’t cover the visit and neither did the German press which probably hasn’t even heard of Robert Abela in the first placeย (but they surely know about Roberta Metsola). Olaf Scholz didn’t even make a mention of the visit on his Twitter profile. I’m sure that Robert Abela’s communication advisors will be frantically calling their German counterparts, begging them for some mentions after reading this post.
Robert Abela is like a nobody abroad, welcomed only out of politeness and not out of necessity, as he occupies much-valued calendar slots of foreign leaders when the meeting could have been an email.
