Once again, if the police had treated Rosianne Cutajar’s phantom job case in the same way they treated Melvin Theuma’s, the corrupt enabler who directly executed Rosianne Cutajar’s contract would also have been arraigned in court, and this was none other than the ITS CEO Pierre Fenech. In Melvin Theuma’s case, Keith Schembri along with the bureaucrats and executives who gave the phantom job to Melvin Theuma have been arraigned in court.
Prime Minister Robert Abela and Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo are both defending Pierre Fenech saying he was only following Konrad Mizzi’s instructions. This is, of course, a very stupid defense and Robert Abela has been defending Rosianne Cutajar ever since NuxellinaLeaks were published. So, it is not true that he had taken the proper action as he is claiming. In fact, his first reaction to the publication of chats was to attack me directly and he only forced Rosiane Cutajar to resign later after the massive pressure put on him and the Party. And of course, government executives can never excuse their illegal behaviour simply by saying that they were following the Minister’s instructions – they are supposed to act like executives, not clerks.
Yet, Pierre Fenech is very much trusted by the Labour Party and he has been retained in his posts after having been appointed by Konrad Mizzi. Rosianne Cutajar’s fraudulent contract is not the only corrupt favour that Pierre Fenech did for Labour. The Malta Tourism Authority which has a very extensive racket of government subsidies to Labour Party donors and associates, run by actual criminals, often makes use of the Mediterranean Conference Centre which Pierre Fenech is entrusted to run by the Ministry of Tourism. At the same time as being CEO of the MCC, he is also CEO of the ITS and makes no secret of his very irregular behavior outside of work, not to mention the blatant nepotism.
Given that Pierre Fenech is involved in various irregular activities that implicate multiple Labour ministers and executives, both Robert Abela and Clayton Bartolo will do their best to cover up for him. Their statements to the press defending him would have already sent a very clear message to the Attorney General and the Police not to pursue any criminal action against him.
