The story that the White House and the State Department were opposed to Israel’s conduct in its war against Hamas was well known, but it has now been reported that President Biden warned Benjamin Netanyahu not to repeat the carnage once hostilities against Hamas are resumed.
Israel and Hamas intend to resume hostilities once the hostage and prisoner swap deals are concluded. There is also widespread agreement by military analysts that the military force used in Israel’s bombardment of the North was also excessive and the White House does not want a repeat of the same kind of hostilities. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will also be pressuring Israel to extend the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s support in Israel is dwindling to all-time lows and was yesterday even rebuffed by residents of communities in neighboring Gaza.
