Currently, the judiciary is undergoing a reshuffle whereas magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is to be removed from the financial crimes court and new Magistrates will be appointed to work on inquiries.
Donatella Frendo Dimech has announced her demotion in her court saying publicly “she is pleased to have been removed of this burden”, but in reality, she is threatening Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti that she will take her case to the Commission for the Administration of Justice. She says that she is being unjustly defamed by lawyers, but everybody knows this is not true.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Robert Abela tried to take advantage of this reshuffle by demanding through the Justice Ministry to the Chief Justice that the new inquiring magistrates take up all the pending magisterial inquiries that have started since 2018. This move would have automatically removed Magistrate Gabriella Vella from her inquiry on Joseph Muscat’s fraudulent hospital deals, a demand that Joseph Muscat has been fighting for.
The Chief Justice has refused this request and Magistrate Gabriella Vella is to remain on the inquiry.
