Saviour Balzan has a very long list of lies to address and should focus on writing explanations instead of declaring war on other journalists. There are a series of consistent lies and schemes Saviour Balzan perpetrated through MaltaToday that still need explaining.
Firstly, and most importantly, Saviour Balzan was still scheming against Opposition figures with Yorgen Fenech and making PR for him after Yorgen Fenech was found out to have been the owner of 17 Black, and therefore the person syphoning money to Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi meant to their Panama shell-companies. Saviour Balzan was willingly and knowingly working for a businessman who was involved in one of the biggest corrupt schemes in our political history. Saviour Balzan also kept a close friendship with Keith Schembri, despite lying to everyone by telling us he felt betrayed by Joseph Muscat and his friends. This was the same time when Keith Schembri was experiencing pressure from Labour Party insiders to resign.
While Saviour Balzan enjoyed a close friendship with Keith Schembri and Yorgen Fenech, MaltaToday referred to Keith Schembri’s fake story through MaltaToday of the oil smugglers namely Darren Debono being the suspects in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Saviour Balzan explained this situation by saying that he was framed, but at the same time he was doing BBQs with Keith Schembri. Saviour Balzan also used to rake in quite a handful of contracts from Yorgen Fenech and Joseph Muscat’s friends such as this contract with Joseph Cuschieri.
Saviour Balzan didn’t cut off links with the Tumas Group and Yorgen Fenech after he was brought to court on charges of masterminding the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Eyewitnesses have seen him parking his car in Portomaso last year, every Thursday evening to meet Yorgen Fenech’s defence lawyers, Charles Mercieca and Gianluca Caruana Curran and also with Yorgen Fenech’s mother. Saviour Balzan also falsely accused Jason Azzopardi of having a copy of the Europol report on Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder case. In a recent court sitting, it transpired that the only ones having a copy of this Europol report were Yorgen Fenech’s defence team, Saviour Balzan, and the court expert Martin Bajada. He’s also falsely accusing Jason Azzopardi of leaking Yorgen Fenech’s chats, and this is also not true.
When Robert Abela became Prime Minister, Saviour Balzan kept the same business model as previously, despite telling us that he had changed.
Saviour Balzan concocted a fraudulent attack against the judiciary last year with Prime Minister Robert Abela. Basically, with an imminent Magisterial Inquiry on Jean-Paul Sofia’s death that was meant to be concluded, Robert Abela and Saviour Balzan concocted a fake story that the inquiring Magistrateย Marsanne Farrugia had delayed the inquiry – this story was false because the delay was coming from the Office of the Attorney General and not the Inquiring Magistrate who had already submitted her inquiry.
I was still on friendly terms with Saviour Balzan before I published this story and Saviour Balzan was even genuinely trying to find ways to help me – even offering me a consultancy paid with EU funds. I had much to lose by publishing the story on how Saviour Balzan was helping Robert Abela create his self-serving constitutional crisis, but I published it anyway because no one was giving it any attention. Saviour Balzan and I were friends and I am not going to change the narrative of my history with him just because he is declaring war against me – I’m better than that. You can also go through MaltaToday’s history to read the many published articles about me that speak of me in a very good light (unless they begin to delete them) – we had a very good relationship with each other and we used to consider ourselves as good allies. MaltaToday stopped quoting my work after I released the story on Jean-Paul Sofia. Today, Saviour Balzan is helping Robert Abela exonerate the criminal friends of Yorgen Fenech and Joseph Muscat.
Saviour Balzan’s two-page article declaring war against me as an independent journalist starting his business should be seen in this context.
