It’s all about Electrogas

From the testimony given by Matthew Caruana Galizia during the ongoing trial of Yorgen Fenech, he reiterated that the Electrogas project, which was the flagship project of the Labour Party and Joseph Muscat during the 2013 general election campaign, dominated Daphne Caruana Galizia’s work during the final years and months of her life.

Matthew Caruana Galizia also stated that the documents and material she had gathered on the subject were so extensive that reviewing the case required a significant amount of work.

Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered over her investigation into Electrogas, and it was Keith Schembri who, after her murder, tried to divert attention by spreading the rumour that she had been murdered by oil contrabandists. Someone who can testify about the latter is Saviour Balzan, who swallowed this story himself and was in regular contact with Keith Schembri.

Electrogas, and by extension the Panama Papers, remains Daphne Caruana Galizia’s largest and most intensive investigation, spanning many articles and including various documents published as evidence. The Panama Papers, a story she broke herself, was about the shell companies that Brian Tonna had set up for Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and Yorgen Fenech for the money-laundering system used to siphon money away from the Electrogas project.

It was mainly Daphne Caruana Galizia who revealed Joseph Muscat’s extensive corruption behind the Electrogas project and the people involved in it. Her investigations threatened a very lucrative corrupt scheme involving Joseph Muscat and his associates, Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi, and Yorgen Fenech, who provided them with kickbacks.

Electrogas still operates the Delimara gas-fire-powered station in and has been making a profit selling electricity to Enemalta.

Qalulna nhallu l-istituzzjonijiet jahdmu. Allahares ma kienx hemm Daphne (R.I.P.) u l-whistleblowers li fuq kollox minflok gew protetti mill-istituzzjonijiet, gew imgieghla jaharbu mill-pajjiz u sahansitra maqtula. X’fiducja jista’ jkollok fil-pulizija? Min kien naqra ta’ stoffa, kellu jwarrab ghax ma felahx jkun komplici billi joqghod ma jaghmel xejn. Kieku ma kienx hemm il-leaks konna nibqghu nibilghu kanna wara l-ohra, u ma nafu b’xejn ghax kollox hearsay u provi m’hemmx. U zgur li provi m’hemmx jekk min ghandu l-awtorita fil-but tal-politici u l-businessmen. Il-provi jsibuhom biex jeqirduhom mhux biex jibnu l-kaz.
