There were interesting revelations yesterday in Court as the defence of Yorgen Fenech tried to bring forth multiple legal points of order to disrupt the proceedings and even the trial.
The son of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, Andrew, testified that at the end of her life his mother was hard at work on her investigation into Electrogas. He said that he had already testified to this before Police investigators, despite the defence doing its best to try to derail his testimony. He also said that Siemens told them they thought that the Electrogas project was a failure.
Charles Mercieca, Yorgen Fenech’s defence lawyer, apparently jumped back at these remarks and threatened to bring an Electrogas witness. That is very telling. It means that Electrogas, currently being fronted by Mark Gasan, may still provide testimony supposedly supportive of Yorgen Fenech.
The problem is that the state’s investigative authorities failed to bring the Electrogas investigation into Court proceedings against its suspects, and now the trial remains without some of its necessary components, including the evidence linking the murder to Electrogas.
The government kept using Electrogas and it eventually made a profit in a time of energy crisis while the government runs a massive policy of energy subsidies.
The massive elepehantal backdrop which led to the murder remaiend untouched and was even allowed to become profitable thanks to the government’s disinterest in obtaining a good energy policy while ensuring impunity to the architects of the corrupt Electrogas project.
