Despite being in prison, Yorgen Fenech still has the resources and capabilities to mount a very powerful defense of him, apart from bribing people and also setting up his own communications team and network. That Yorgen Fenech has been doing his communications through his network has so far been a very closely guarded secret of his team, although this defense is public and blatant.
Coordinating his communications is none other than Saviour Balzan, who last year, lied to the public and his friends and staff when he claimed that he never did PR nor receive any payments from Yorgen Fenech: later on it transpired that he did actually, do PR for Yorgen Fenech apart from receiving payments from him for his TV programmes on the public broadcaster. Saviour Balzan also lied when he was sorry and that he felt duped by Joseph Muscat and all the ridiculous stuff about turning a new leaf. Under Robert Abela administration, Saviour Balzan has preserved his relationship with Yorgen Fenech by helping him still, with his communications strategy, planning and coordinating this strategy with Yorgen Fenech’s defense team, on some Thursdays at Portomaso. Today, Saviour Balzan is still bringing up an old Europol report that only he and Yorgen Fenech’s defense team had available and which did not mention Yorgen Fenech as a suspect. Saviour Balzan is engaged in a smearing campaign against Jason Azzopardi, the parte civile lawyer of the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia for allegedely having leaked the Europol report: this is a lie.
As of lately, the public defense of Yorgen Fenech has picked up steam mainly thanks to his public defender and University of Malta academic, Simon Mercieca. Simon Mercieca is suing me for having written that he was paid for his services by Yorgen Fenech after having met with Yorgen Fenech’s mother and I could verify this information from at least, two different sources who are unrelated to each other. Unfortunately, I did not follow Simon Mercieca’s libel case against me in court because I was not even notified of the court sittings, and of course, I don’t read his stupid blog. My lawyers will be mounting a legal defense this week. Simon Mercieca is engaged in a full-on public defense campaign in favour of Yorgen Fenech trying to pin the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia on everyone other than Yorgen Fenech himself. Simon Mercieca has blamed Daphne’s murder on the freemasons, on Darren Debono, and even Arthur Azzopardi, amongst many others. Simon Mercieca is engaged in publishing pure lies and disinformation that is aimed at helping Yorgen Fenech’s image and he has also been paid to do so. Meanwhile, Simon Mercieca is also attacking critics, journalists, and Members of the Opposition whilst defending some of Yorgen Fenech’s allies in politics and the Labour Party such as Rosianne Cutajar.
As we get nearer to Yorgen Fenech’s trial by jury date, a new public defender of Yorgen Fenech emerged through Franco Debono who started smearing Daphne Caruana Galizia and her family. Franco Debono’s legal associate, Marion Camilleri is also assisting Yorgen Fenech.
Both Franco Debono and Saviour Balzan have a personal grudge against Daphne Caruana Galizia and today, they are even satisfying this grudge by making money off it. On the other hand, Simon Mercieca has joined the bandwagon finding an opportunity to amplify his useless and retarded voice along with a band of criminals.
The recent news that the local press is to receive further funding should be seen in this context. Saviour Balzan, who is the gatekeeper of these initiatives has very particular commercial and personal interests that are very much aligned with Labour’s interests of impunity and organised crime. On the other hand, the PN too is increasingly showing an alignment with Labour’s interests and tolerance and impunity for corruption. All that is left to conquer for Labour is the judiciary and the free press. Yorgen Fenech is thus being served double by Saviour Balzan and his communications team is even more effective than sending a public message: they are helping him weaken the Maltese state by supporting a politics of lawlessness and criminality. While Saviour Balzan coordinates Yorgen Fenech’s communications, he is also helping Robert Abela build and consolidate his criminal government, a state of affairs and lawlessness that ultimately is beneficial to Yorgen Fenech.
I wonder who is the real “establishment” in this story. There’s a very Mafia-like convergence of many individual and corrupt interests that are very Mafia-like because it is what it is: a Mafia State and individuals like Saviour Balzan, Franco Debono, and Simon Mercieca are enjoying its benefits.
