Europeans should be informed of all covert Russian campaigns in Europe

In statements he gave, this week, to journalists, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell claimed he had information about Russia’s involvement in the attempt to separate the Spanish region of Catalonia from the Spanish state. The information was gathered by the EU’s Intelligence Analysis Centre (EU INTCEN) which serves as the EU’s intelligence agency.

In these current times of heightened risks and war in Europe, the European public deserves to know about all of Russia’s covert operations in Europe, especially those operations that involve propaganda, disinformation, and political infiltration. Exposing Russia’s covert operations in Europe will also help political leaders to make tougher decisions on Moscow. Borrell has so far, shown no signs of seriousness throughout the multiple crises that we have had, having failed to implement and take decisive actions in Europe’s defence and strategic leverage.

Borrell may also have personal political interests that lie with his political loyalties for refusing to divulge information on Russia’s infiltration in Spain and Catalonian politicos. Borrell comes from the same party as Pedro Sanchez, who is currently negotiating with the criminal lawyers of Carles Puigdemont and his political associates to change terrorism and insurrection laws, so that Sanchez may form a coalition government with them. Carles Puigdemont collaborated with the Russian secret service against the Spanish state during his campaign for Catalonian independence.
