The Maltese government should stop posturing and fooling around with the case of Alberto Chang Rajiii and immediately extradite him to Chile to face justice for defrauding tens of millions of US Dollars from pensioners and investors. On multiple occasions, the Maltese courts have reiterated that it is up to the government to make a decision to extradite Alberto Chang and not the Maltese courts because Malta has no extradition arrangements with Chile other than the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (Palermo Convention).
Basically, the Maltese government is deliberately protecting him by allowing to stay in Malta despite an Interpol red notice against him and incessant demands by the Chilean prosecutor to extradite him. Chilean prosecutors are extremely flustered at the lack of cooperation by the Maltese government and this places Maltese investors in Chile with heightened attention by the authorities. Not to mention the reputational damage for harbouring one of the world’s current and biggest fraudsters. Alberto Chang is no ordinary criminal and is one of the most wanted men by the Chilean authorities.
