Yesterday, at night, after publishing this story, I spent some time just staring at the conversation I had with Joseph Portelli in order to understand what made him furious. Academics may call this an exercise of “deconstruction”.
I realised that Joseph Portelli’s demeanour changed when I mentioned to him the Montenegrin island that he was offered for an obscenely premium price. He didn’t buy it, of course. Now, I’m definitely convinced there is something deeply wrong with this story. I encourage other journalists to ask him about it.
He’s rather stupid to be exposing himself in this way. He should have remained courteous. Now, it seems to me that he has given himself away.
