In what is probably the funniest headline of this year so far, Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, famously known as “Tommy Robinson” has been arrested in Canada over illegal immigration charges.
The arrest is also the most Canadian thing I have ever seen in a long time.
Those of us who have political experience in the anti-fascist camp know very well who Tommy Robinson is and will find this clip deadly hilarious. Those of you who don’t know about Tommy Robinson, he’s an English citizen and leader of the English Defence League and other fascist and far-right organisations. The EDL has a long history of violent clashes against left-wing groups and black and Muslim people in the UK. I remember them briefly in 2011 when they tried to disrupt a lecture by Tariq Ali during the Marxism Festival.
He was also a member of the British Nationalist Party.
