The Broadcasting Authority has released its latest viewership survey. We have once again been listed as a broadcasting entity for aduiovisual content. I find this categorisation strange since we have only very little of audiovisual content of our own.
Note, that I am not complaining about this. Instead of seeing such an oversight as a problem, I’d prefer to fight for this spot to keep it and make it grow. It’s quite a challenge since producing audiovisual content is capital intensive and we are focusing on book publications and news right now. It will remain in my priorities.
On the other hand, the Broadcasting Authority doesn’t categorizes as a news outlet. To add insult to injury their statistics on news readership don’t reflect the actual and real statistics as actually recorded online. We are by far much more ahead than The Shift News and Malta Daily in terms of readers, yet we are not even considered a news source. This website has the full attention of 2% of the news readership share. These statistics can be verified and no one can take this away from us.
The government and its allies have gone to great extent to punish us and we face constant and daily challenges by them. Along with the government, we also face the attacks and rent-seeking of our government-funded competitors like MaltaToday. Any kind of excuse is brought up to punish us including that this website bears my name and is not a “real news site”.
We will make some changes in October and we will come knocking on the door of those who have tried to undermine us. Bills and invoices will be issued. Letters will be sent. More employees will be engaged. Court cases will continue. New deals will be struck and new friends will be made. Our growth does not need government funding, unlike our competitors who attack and undermine us (they think).
