Hungary refuses oil from Croatia: wants exclusively Russian oil from Ukrainian pipeline

Viktor Orban’s government prefers his country to remain without oil rather than buy it from non-Russian sources. Hungary made excuses to refuse oil from Croatia and has also rejected other options previously offered.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó said that oil from Croatia was more expensive. He said:

Croatia is simply not a reliable country for transit. Croatia has failed to invest in capacity building, and has never proved the figure it has given for the maximum transit capacity of its pipeline. Also, oil transit prices were raised fivefold since the outbreak of the (Ukraine) war by Croatia.

Hungary, which hosts in its capital, Budapest, a Chinese police station and Chinese police officers that patrol its streets, has recently announced it will be issuing working-visas to Russians and Belorussians with MEPs calling for Hungary to be suspended from the Schengen Area as a response.
