Project Lose the Elections

Supreme Leader Robert Abela doesn’t seem to care any longer about the consequences of his actions in politics or about winning the next general election at all.

He has been hounded for months on end by Joseph Muscat’s faction to reinstate the disgraced MP, Rosianne Cutajar to the Labour Party Parliamentary Group. Now, Robert Abela seems to be giving in to their demands, even without her fulfilling the condition of returning to apologise for her actions – a step that would be rather incriminating for her.

This is an incredibly bizarre situation given that Rosianne Cutajar is currently under Police investigation, and Robert Abela knows this. We also know this because Bank of Valletta was requested to provide her details and bank transactions to the authorities. Yet, she is being allowed to go back to the Labour Party’s Parliamentary Group.

Even if Rosianne Cutajar is not hauled to court because the Police Commissioner decides to protect her, as he did with all the other Labour Party politicians (except for Silvio Grixti), the effect in the general election would be equally devastating. This is not a renewal for the Labour Party; it is the consolidation of the power and influence that Joseph Muscat holds over the party.

It’s as if Robert Abela has given up on wrestling control of the party from Joseph Muscat and has instead embraced the situation as it is, with no hope of ever changing it.

  1. Labour has already lost the elections. Currently the Labour Party and Governement is rudderless, devoid of direction, vision and coherent leadership. In the run up to MEP and local Council elections Labour used all the firepower available in an attempt to win big time. Despite mobilising its air, sea, land and underground forces Labour only managed feeble bitter victories proving beyond doubt that their time is up. And this against a moribund dysfunctional opposition who so far were content to bide their time to be elected to power by default. Labour is now in disarray. Led by a puerile imbecile who would have attracted the crowds if he had joined circus du soleil. To accept back in the folds a liability like Rossiane Cutajar is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Her association with JF is enough to prove that she is not worthy to call herself a labourite, let alone a socilist. True socilaists do not hobnob with millionaires. As to Jason Micallef who came out in her defence. Where is the much needed revolution you whined about? How do the delegates and officials you boasted had approached and encouraged you to contest for the role feel now?
