Rapid Support Forces Major General Gedo Hamdan killed by airstrike

RSF Major General Gedo Hamdan (Abu Shouk) was yesterday killed by an airstrike in El-Daien city in Eastern Darfur conducted by the Sudanese government. An airstrike hit him on Saturday 10th as he fled the battle of Al-Fashir. He succumbed to his wounds yesterday.

Gedo Hamdan is a relative of the RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan and is responsible for the displacement of one million people and hundreds of thousands men, women and children killed in Darfur.

Peace talks between the Sudanese government and the RSF are underway in Geneva mediated by the USA, but many Sudanese are protesting the talks stating that the RSF should instead be prosecuted for war crimes.

The RSF, previously the Janjaweed militias, is responsible for some of the most atrocious war crimes ever recorded in Africa including the mass rape of women and children. They were formed by previous Sudanese President, Omar Al-Bashir, and were also responsible for massacring 100 protesters and raping 70 women during the protests held in Khartoum in 2019. Today, the RSF are backed by the Russian Wagner Group and Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army. They are also funded by the United Arab Emirates.

Many Sudanese claim that the RSF is a foreign-proxy group and therefore, the Sudanese conflict can not be classified as a civil-war but rather a war against Sudan and the Sudanese government by various foreign parties using local proxies.

The RSF has killed more than 645 people during the ongoing talks in Geneva.

The Deputy Commander of the RSF, Mohamed Hamdam Daglo, who is considered as a major war criminal in Sudan and Africa, also has a Twitter account (X.com) and posts regularly about the RSF’s positions.
