The educational staff of the MCAST College and related institutions are still expecting to have a renewed agreement about their salaries despite the government securing the collective agreement with the Malta Union of Teachers and even securing funding for private schools.
The MUT signed a specific collective agreement for the MCAST staff with the Ministry of Education in 2018, and expired in 2021. Despite repeated calls, and even repeated industrial action across the years to conclude a new agreement, the Ministry of Education kept delaying the MCAST negotiations until today. Now, the Malta Union of Teachers is negotiating with the Ministry of Education over their salaries and is expected to inform MCAST educators soon about the Ministry’s proposals.
MCAST educators feel they have historically been sidelined, as the MCAST institution has been considered secondary in government priorities compared to other public and “private” educational institutions.
