When speaking about MCAST, one can’t help but mention the recent and very strange dismissal of Professor Joachim James Calleja as Principal. He is contesting his dismissal following a report in his favour by the Ombudsman and is now challenging his dismissal at the Industrial Relations Tribunal.
His post was terminated last year, long before his term was set to expire in 2026, but the Ministry of Education never published any explanation for its change of heart. James Calleja, as he is known in government circles, is an experienced bureaucrat who also served as the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education during a different administration and has been appointed to various roles during consecutive Labour administrations.
