Yesterday, the Syrian government has announced a three-day mourning for Hezbollah’s dead leader Hassan Nasrallah. However, there have been so far no statements from the Syrian government about the possible death of President Bashar al-Assad’s brother Maher al-Assad. Syrians across various cities have been celebrating his death after his villa bombed in an Israeli airstrike.
Maher al-Assad is sanctioned by the EU and the US and is responsible for various atrocities in Syria to keep his brother in power, including the use of chemical weapons, the shooting of unarmed protesters, the imprisonment and torture of dissidents and bombing and shelling of towns and cities. He also used to oversee the government’s illegal drug trade of Captagon pills.
