The first National Forum about Media and Information for Democracy

Tomorrow, the Nationalist Party is conducting a democratic exercise by inviting the press for a discussion in parliament about the future of the press. The event is called The First National Forum about Media and Information for Democracy.

This is part of the Nationalist Party’s process to consult with the press and media publishers in reaction to the government’s attempt to impose an authoritarian press reform. The government also pretended to conduct a consulting exercise by appointing its own consultants, who were mostly its own propagandists.

The Nationalist Party is now retaking control of the debate by bringing on board the same subjects the law would effect: the press itself.

Unfortunately, I can not make it tomorrow but I do encourage my friends to attend. I’m still abroad, trying to finalise many aspects of a major launch I have planned. Although I’m running behind on some things, most of it is going according to plan.

The Nationalist Party’s initative is being led by Karol Aquilina and Claudette Buttigieg.

  1. What a pity. And what a sad state of affairs.

Malta has only two major political parties that can alternate government, but ONLY one of them is democratic.
