A reluctance by the Police to charge Alessandro Lia: Pawlu Lia’s son

Currently, several unusual cases involving Alessandro Lia are ongoing, further complicating an already complex situation within the judiciary and the courts. Alessandro Lia is Pawlu Lia’s son: the previous Labour Party lawyer and and also lawyer to Joseph Muscat. Pawlu Lia is still Joseph Muscat’s lawyer till this day and is also the government-appointed member of the Commission for the Administration of Justice which regulates the conduct of the judiciary.

Alessandro Lia was married to Nadine Lia, who was appointed Magistrate, but Alessandro Lia is currently being charged in Court with domestic violence. Alessandro Lia is also a Commissioner of Justice (a role that adjudicates traffic fines), and despite these serious allegations against him, Alessandro Lia didn’t resign from his post.

In addition to accusations of domestic violence, Alessandro Lia has been ordered by the court to face charges of fraud related to car transfer documents. Two sources independent from each other confirmed to me that there is reluctance from the police to charge Alessandro Lia in this case, and it’s possible that the police have even appealed the court’s decision to charge him.
